Gosh! Congressional members all.....so what? Lack of ethics is not unusual here, to paraphrase...."you never can tell who you're gonna snag when you drag freebies the congrssional halls"!

Yes, and this is very clever! Because the two bodies disagree, the action they take is very REDUCED! I'd bet it was designed this way, folks, to achieve just this result!

"When it comes to ethics, Congress largely polices itself." ======================================================================= We already saw this same scenario of foxes guarding the hen house during the bush/cheney regime, with virtually every government agency chock full of industry insiders, and the lack of oversight and accountability was astounding. This is ridiculous and one of the reasons Washington is so broken, without any hope for reform!

"When it comes to ethics, Congress largely polices itself." And therein lies the problem. Fox/hen house type of thing ya know. Pardon me while I choke on my coffee laughing!

Who speaks for the people: Nobody; especially not the parties! They're all crooks! That's what happens when Democratic freedom is turned into a freedom that is based on wealth, and its privileges. We already are a Fascist state -- too much freedom is no Freedom.

It really doesn't matter whether there is a double standard in the House and Senate when it comes to ethics because the bar is set so low for both the House and Senate that the ethics standards and proceedings are meaningless. The timing of the hearings is routinely manipulated to help the party in power...Democrats or Republicans...and has been for years. Hearings are routinely pushed back until after elections, thus depriving voters of crucial information about the behavior of their elected representatives before they cast their votes. Realistically speaking, the whole concept of ethics and personal responsibility in both the House and Senate has become meaningless. The members of these institutions are for sale to whoever gives the biggest campaign contributions. Inexcusable conduct is routinely defended by members of both political parties and any allegations against a member of Congress or the Senate is routinely derided as a partisan political attack. The penalties imposed are meaningless by themselves and amount to nothing more than fodder for television attack ads by their opponents. The entire system is broken.

Why would you have thought it was being done in a different way. The ones that have left over charges were nothing more than the sacrificial lambs.

Perhaps the difference in charges or no charges, is the apparent "intent" in the actions.
